Remembering Michael Jackson – The Red Jacket

Some people may not know this (although everyone close to me does), but I am a huge Michael Jackson fan. Everything from his music, his autobiography, and even his fashion inspires me. With today being his 3rd deathaversary (June 25th, 2009), I decided to pay tribute to the King of Pop through fashion.

A week ago I paid express shipping to get this red studded jacket in time from Zara, and I have to say that it was well worth it. Any true MJ fan would have noticed that besides his iconic sequined glove, or white socks & black shoes, Michael had multiple red statement jackets that reoccured in his wardrobe throughout his career. I had been looking for a red statement jacket for years, so when I saw this one on Zara, I had to pick it up immediately! And for the record, I already have the glove. ;)

What they say about 9-11, how you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news, well that applied to me and Michael’s death. I was getting my hair washed at some cheap salon when a girl walked pass saying, “First Farrah Fawcett, now this? Two in one day.” I wondered what she was talking about, but then I remembered hearing on the TV before I left that Farrah Fawcett passed away. I remember being in denial, but as the news sunk in my face went cold trying to hold my sadness in. I could feel my 2 best friends sitting next to me, looking at me, hoping I didn’t hear the news.

To make matters worse, the girl washing/cutting my hair said in response to the first girl, “It’s probably from touching all those little boys.” First of all, I do not believe MJ ever did anything except be a record breaking performer. I don’t care what anyone says. Secondly, even if you believe he did, why would you say such a thing on a day where someone has passed away? Show some respect at least! I sat through my haircut upset and angry. I wanted to walk out and refuse her as my hairdresser, but my hair was already soaking wet. I remember spending the next month hoping it was all some big joke, or dream that I would wake up from, but he’s gone, truly gone. And that’s my story. JN
